Every Parent is a Teacher!
Parents are their child’s first teacher. Our program shows parents of young children the importance of fostering the cognitive, social and emotional development of their girls and boys. We also teach parents skilling for raising children.
We engage parents and children in fun activities that promote interaction and learning. Our program is a partner in the Brain Building in Progress campaign to raise awareness that children begin learning at a very young age.
Our programs and activities include:
- Parent Cafes. A forum for parents to seek support and share their experiences and struggles.
- Tadpole Room. A free learning program for preschool children to get them ready to enter school. Open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 9:30-11:30 a.m., at GLCAC, 305 Essex Street, 3rd floor, Lawrence.
- Literacy Circles. Join us weekly at the Lawrence Public Library and monthly at the Andover, Methuen and North Andover public libraries as we read aloud and have fun.
- Playgroups. Join us every Thursday at Imajine That in Methuen for playgroups for children and support for parents. In partnership with the YMCA.
Parent Child Home Program
The Parent Child Home Program provides parents techniques for reading, talking and playing with their young children. Staff provides twice weekly home visits and assists parents in ensuring children are ready to enter school.
The program focuses on improving parent-child relationships, verbal interaction and the development of critical language skills necessary for children to be ready to enter school.
Look for Us in the Community
We are in the community at activities related to children and looking to reach parents who are isolated from other families and support services. Our goal is to spread the word that early literacy leads to better outcomes and success for children.
