On Wednesday, April 18, 2001 Timberland of Stratham, New Hampshire conducted a community service day in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Approximately 105 Timberland employees of the Supply Chain Division spent the day working on various projects throughout the city. Timberland provided all transportation, lunch, and even contributed supplies and materials. Timberland had been meeting since March with members of the Lawrence community in planning and visiting the project sites.

Projects included:

bulletReading to children at the Lawrence Public Library, YMCA, and YWCA. Timberland brought not only books and interactive play activities for the children, but also assisted local staff in caring for the children for the day by feeding, helping at naptime, and even helping get the children to their swimming lessons.
bulletThe YMCA had their backyard cleared of brush and debris. A dump truck full was hauled away. This task would have been insurmountable without Timberland’s aid.
bulletElder Projects – Several elder homes were targeted for cleaning and minor repairs.
bulletThe Andover Street site of Head Start had painting, landscaping, and interior renovations done. Shrubs, flowers, and plantings transformed the front yard and playground areas. Playground equipment was sanded and painted as well as picnic benches and tables. An interior therapy room was totally gutted with new paneling and furniture installed. It was a complete metamorphosis for the site and the children just loved it.   See action photo's at Head Start
bulletThe Lahey School elementary school had a fabulous mural created on an interior wall.

This was a very exciting opportunity for Lawrence and inspired many local staff to join in on the efforts. The hard work and dedication of Timberland’s employees was a topic of conversation for days later. Elise Klysa, Timberland’s Senior Manager of the Social Enterprise Department headed the project. The Greater Lawrence Community Action Council, Inc. of Lawrence was the coordinating local agency for this event.
