Teachers of the Future --- Press Release 02/07/02Through
funding allotted by the Administration for Children and Families, the GLCAC, Inc.
Community Partnerships for Children Program (CPC) in collaboration with Early
Head Start, Northern Essex Community College, Early Intervention and the
Lawrence, Methuen, Andover, and Greater Lawrence Vocational Technical High Schools, will
offer another exciting year of activities to allow high school students the opportunity to
investigate a career in the early childhood/human services field.
The Teachers of the
Future Program will afford high school students the opportunity to explore and
experience the field of early childhood educational care and possible career choices. They will learn a basic overview of preschool
development through fun group sessions targeting basic theory and group experiences. The participants will participate in a college
level class at Northern Essex Community College (NECC) which will involve college level
writing with a focus on early childhood terminology.
The course will provide three (3) college credits upon successful completion
of the NECC class and give them a head start at an exciting career.
The
participants will be assigned to a preschool classroom during afterschool hours for
practical training. Weekly guest speakers in
the field as well as fun activities are offered to the group to continue the group
building dynamics.
The
program will run from November 2001 to May 2002. High
school students who are interested in the program can contact Nardy Vega at the Community
Partnership office at (978) 681-4996.
