The Greater Lawrence Community Action Council has plans to expand three early childhood
centers, adding 12 new classrooms for 204 youngsters.Expansions are planned for:
The Head Start program at the Girls Club on Water Street. The Greater
Lawrence Community Action Council plans for the Head Start space at that site to double --
from four classes to eight.
The Head Start program at 246 Andover St. Plans call for at least four
-- and possible eight -- more classrooms to be added to the four Head Start classes
already at the site.
The Childcare Center at Andover St. Plans are for the Action Council to add
four new classrooms to the building, which already houses roughly a dozen classrooms,
according to Community Action Council Associate Director Charles L. "Chick "
LoPiano.
Mr. LoPiano estimated each addition will cost about $300,000 in federal money each.
He predicted that all the expansion projects will be finished within the next five
years.
