February 28, 2008
Saturday, February 23rd, 2008 will go down as the night the Latino community of Massachusetts looked back on its own history.
Through the pages and chronicles of El Mundo Newspaper, which celebrated its 35th anniversary with a memorable Gala Dinner, the voyage in time was masterfully conducted by Master of ceremony Jose Masso and keynote speaker, award winning television journalist Jorge Quiroga of WCVB’s NewsCetner 5, who offered a unique perspective on where this community sprang from and where it is headed.
The evening also served as an occasion to honor five pioneers whose impact in the lives of many has been continuously felt for over three decades. Julio Raul Pabon, Rafael Toro, Isabel Melendez, Mercedes Barnet and Luis Tiant were the recipients of the first ever El Munda Lifetime Achievement Awards.
